Studio owner Lee Lorber says she first became interested in yoga in 2000 when she was suffering from severe sciatica. She enrolled in yoga classes with Yvonne Herbst, and her sciatica pain began to heal.
Lee eventually enrolled in yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Institute in Lennox, Massachusetts, the oldest yoga teaching institute in the U.S., where she studied for three summers.
Then, Lee began teaching yoga to fellow school teachers at Fauquier High School in her classroom after school for about five year. She later moved her classes to Sherpa Hair Salon, and opened her own studio in February 2013 in Old Town Warrenton, Virginia.
Lee is a certified yoga instructor through the Hard and Soft Yoga Institute, Beryl Bender Birch’s astanga school at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, N.Y. She has studied B.K.S. Ivengar style yoga with Joan White, also at Omega Institute, and is currently working on a certification from Healing Arts in Fredericksburg, Virginia under the instruction of Ren Fields.
Lee describes her style of teaching to be Yin/Yang Vinyasa Flow. “I am a “hands on” teacher who pays attention to my students’ alignment to ensure they are performing the poses safely and without risk of injury. Our classes at Equipose Yoga Studio are small and intimate, so I can tailor a class to meet the needs of the students who are present,” Lee says.
In a typical class, Lee offers instruction in pranayama (breathing) techniques to center or focus the mind, and relaxation exercises, as well as the asanas or poses. Classes typically last an hour and a half, including final relaxation.”
